Video Update
Understanding, Predicting, and Preventing Falls
We all know falling is very dangerous for clients, and it’s also dangerous for caregivers. Just the other day I heard a story of a caregiver who had a total bicep tear from trying to catch a falling resident: after surgery that was a $100,000 injury.
Despite this risk, as an industry we don’t tend to train effectively on how to deal with falls. Do you, for instance, understand why we fall from a structural perspective? If you understand the body’s balance — and you will after these videos — you can better predict falls before they happen.
But what about when they do happen? Our instinct is to stop the person, grabbing them in mid-air. This is a disaster in the making. In the final video, I’ll give you an alternative.
Announcement: Live Video Classes Coming Soon
In the very near future, I’ll be offering monthly Zoom classes to offer deep dives into Eastern Ergonomics principles. The classes will be about an hour long, and will include a time for Q&A so we can talk about what’s going on as you implement the training in the field.
I can’t wait to see you there. The schedule will be forthcoming soon!
Thanks for reading, and I’ll look forward to talking soon!
